Arts Quincy is inviting community members to participate in an important survey to help determine the feasibility and design of a state-of-the-art outdoor amphitheater along our historic riverfront. This exciting project, made possible by the Illinois Arts Council Capital Planning Grant through Arts Quincy and in partnership with the City of Quincy, Quincy Riverfront Development Corporation and in collaboration with the Quincy Park District, has the potential to transform Quincy into a premier regional entertainment destination while driving economic growth and enriching the local arts and culture scene. Similar riverfront amphitheaters in other communities have generated remarkable economic and cultural benefits: • Davenport, IA – The River Music Experience contributes over $12 million annually to the local economy. • La Crosse, WI – Riverside Park’s venue draws more than 150,000 visitors per year. • Aurora, IL – RiverEdge Park has created 200+ new jobs and spurred $40 million in downtown development. • Nashville, TN – The Ascend Amphitheater helped double revenue for nearby restaurants. • Decatur, IL – Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater brings national touring acts & boosts local businesses By taking just 5-10 minutes to complete this survey, residents can play a direct role in shaping a project that could bring similar benefits to Quincy. This input will help guide the vision for the venue, ensuring it meets the needs and desires of Quincy’s residents and visitors.
Survey Deadline: March 17, 2025 How to Participate: Visit https://tinyurl.com/ArtsQuincySurvey or follow us on social media to access the survey. As a token of appreciation, all participants who provide their name and email (optional) will be entered into a drawing for a year-long Arts Quincy Family Membership and a $250 Quincy Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks” gift card to spend at local businesses. “This is an incredible opportunity for Quincy to explore a truly transformative project,” said Laura Sievert-Hesseltine, Executive Director at Arts Quincy. “We know that peer communities have benefited tremendously from similar investments, and with public input, we can take the first steps toward a venue that makes Quincy competitive as an entertainment and tourism destination.” “The concept of an outdoor venue has been in our city’s strategic plans, Riverfront Master Plan and Park District Master Plan for a long time, because we all know what a game-changer this kind of investment can be. This grant from the Illinois Arts Council is helping us to put some real figures behind the concept so that the next time major capital grants are available, we’ve got a shovel-ready project to propose. Having that level of planning is what helped us secure the $1.5M grant at the History Museum, and we hope to have a similar opportunity to make this project a reality in the future. Local firm Klingner and Associates was awarded the contract to implement the Capital Planning Grant and is undertaking comprehensive site reviews and stakeholder engagement sessions to plan a facility proposal. "This feedback is key to understanding whether this venue could be successful in Quincy and can become a real economic engine for tourism, hospitality and local quality of life, explains Stephanie Cross, Assistant Project Manager. We're gathering information from the public, from other venues, from touring companies and more to make the first really complete picture of how an outdoor venue could elevate the community."
