Arts Quincy has partnered with the Herald-Whig to present Arts Quincy STEAM Stars!
STEAM projects are at-home activities that incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. These should be fun projects that can be done with items generally found around the house. STEAM is published every Saturday in the Herald-Whig and on the Arts Quincy Facebook page and blog.
You may choose your own project using an original idea or something found on the internet, or Arts Quincy can provide you with a few links to projects you might try. We try to avoid repeats, so please let us know what project you’d like to do before completing the activity. We also prefer projects that do not require specialty materials whenever possible. One of our favorite websites for finding great ideas is https://www.kiwico.com/diy You can sort these categories by age and topic.
After you have a topic selected, all you’ll need to do is complete the activity and take lots of photos! You will submit your best 3-5 pictures for us to include in your article. We are looking for 3 specific photos at a minimum:
1. A photo of all of the materials you need to complete the project in a group on a table
2. Your child in action doing the project
3. Your child with the completed project smiling at the camera
To take great photos, please make sure that you are in a well-lit area and that it’s clear what your child is doing in the photo. Avoid back-lit areas (such as in front of a window) because these will appear too dark in print. Also try to avoid cluttered backgrounds whenever possible.
Then, simply email your photos to [email protected] Please also try and include some information for us to put in your article. Brief answers to the following make great introductions!
• Child’s name
• Child’s age
• Child’s school
• Parents’ names
• What did your child learn doing this project?
• What makes this project fun for other kids to try?
• What is your favorite subject in school and why?
