The Quincy Area Youth Chorus is welcoming new members! Singers in grades 3-12 are invited to audition for the spring 2024 semester. Accepted singers will perform at their own concert on April 7 as well as join the Quincy Symphony Orchestra and Choruses for a spectacular finale performance of Carmina Burana on April 20. “It’s a rare opportunity for a young singer to be part of such a large choir and to have a chance to perform with an orchestra,” said Paul Shelor, QAYC Conductor. “It’s an amazing feeling singing with a live orchestra!”
Auditions are Saturday, Dec. 9, beginning at 10 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 333 S. 36th St. Auditioning children should prepare a song they enjoy singing. Call the Quincy Symphony office, 217-222-2856, to sign up for an audition time slot. QAYC includes girls and boys with unchanged voices, and consists of two performing groups: Amy Fairchild directs the Kinderchor for the younger singers and Paul Shelor directs the Concert Choir for older members. Rehearsals are on either Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons. Young singers from throughout the area perform as an ensemble in the fall and spring and sometimes in combined performances with the Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Additional information is available at qsoa.org/Youth.
