Arts Quincy has sponsored and painted a new mural at Baldwin Elementary School. It is the 14th piece of public art installed by Arts Quincy in four years and the fourth partnership with the artist and program manager Jaycie Womack Spake. “In 2022, Arts Quincy painted a mural depicting the marching band, but the orchestra students wanted something to represent them as well,” said Laura Sievert, Arts Quincy Executive Director. “It’s a nice way to give back to the community and add some bright colors to the music hallway!” The mural design was created by Jaycie Womack Spake. It features piano keys, string instruments, and a hand holding a bow playing the instruments. The colors are vibrant and the design is whimsical.
“I created this mural with the students in mind. I wanted something vibrant and bold, something that makes them smile or catches their eye or their interest,” Spake said. “I hope that the students can draw inspiration from it whether that be to play an instrument or to be an artist like me someday. I walked these same halls nearly 18 years ago and would have loved this in my school! I am glad these kids can inhabit a space where they feel like they can have fun and enjoy skipping to the beat of their own drum.” The project is funded by the individual and business members of Arts Quincy, the Baldwin PTA and Classic Colors.
