Quincy Community Theatre (“QCT”) announced today its lineup of theatre education classes for the Spring 2024 semester. A total of six classes were announced for students ranging from five years old through adulthood. Each class aims to develop a specific set of skills, such as characterization, dance, puppetry, and technical skills. A highlight this semester will be the Musical Theatre Dance for Beginners workshops, with different classes geared toward different age ranges.
Tuition ranges from $20 to $70, depending on the class. QCT volunteers may use accumulated credit from volunteer hours against tuition. Instructor: Deb Currier Introduce your young actor to the world of theatre! Students will have fun bringing some favorite children’s books and fairytale characters to life. We’ll engage in active stories, imaginative play, and fun games. We will explore drama activities that grow literary comprehension, self-confidence, and collaborative skills. Ages: K-2 grades Dates/Times: 4:40-5:30pm, Thursdays 2/29, 3/7, 3/14 & 3/21 Fee: $40 Puppetry: Construction and Play Instructor: Deb Currier Did you know that just about anything can become a puppet? From kitchen utensils to socks ...and even from the recycling bin! Let’s get creative with both art and theatre as we learn how to design and make a found-object puppet character, and then explore drama as we learn to act and react with our puppets! Ages 3-5 grades Dates/Times: 5:30-6:30pm, Thursdays 2/29, 3/7, 3/14 & 3/21 Fee: $55 (includes all materials) Character Acting Intensive Instructor: Megan Masterman Description: We’ll spend 4 weeks studying character archetypes, movement techniques, and guided improvisation you can use to feel comfortable and prepared walking into your next audition, cold read, or role. Ages: 5th-8th grade Tuesdays 6-7pm, 2/27, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19 Fee: $40 Musical Theatre Dance for Beginners: Auditioning Tips and Tricks! Instructor: Cheryl Kaiser Description: Jazz squares, pivot turns, and chassé’s – oh my! Ever feel a little scared by the dance part of musical theatre auditions? Join leading dance instructor and musical theatre choreographer Cheryl Kaiser and learn the basic steps and mindset to do well in just about any musical theatre audition!
Scenic Painting Instructor: Harrison Clarke Learn various painting techniques that scenic designers use to bring worlds to life on stage. Assistant Technical Director Harrison Clarke leads this hands-on class. Make sure you wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy! Ages: 15+ Dates/Times: Mondays and Wednesdays 6:00-8:30pm, Feb 26-Mar 20 Fee: $70 (includes all materials) Basic Sewing Skills Instructor: Jayden Dreyer Description: Have you ever said, "I wish I knew how to sew!"? Well, learn how with Costume Shop Manager Jayden Dreyer! In this class you will learn how to hand sew, basic sewing machine skills, and how to do minor alterations on clothing! All supplies will be provided and no experience necessary! Ages: 13 +, only 4 spots available! Dates/Times: 5:30-6:30p.m, February 26th, 28th, 29th.
