The Quincy Museum at 1601 Maine Street invites you to travel back in time by spending an afternoon at the annual Folk Life Festival. The festival will run from 12-5 pm on Saturday, Oct. 7. Admission to the grounds is FREE all afternoon! You will have the chance to experience the crafts and lifestyles of yesterday with a wide variety of demonstrations, exhibits, food and games.

This year, the Quincy Museum is proud to present Stories ‘n Stones, a special program combining storytelling and Native American technology. This entertaining and informative presentation combines the storytelling talents of Marilyn Kinsella with the primitive stone tool technology of her husband Larry Kinsella. This part of the Folk Life Festival is funded in part by the Illinois Arts Council and Arts Quincy.
There will be a variety of different vendors and demonstrators, so there is sure to be something to catch everyone’s interest. During the afternoon, attendees will see crafters and demonstrators sharing a variety of old-time crafts and activities. Visitors will enjoy watching woodcarvers create beautiful birds, blacksmiths pounding out metal objects, needle workers, chair caning and tatting. Vendors will be selling home-made soaps, essential oils, American Girl style doll clothes, jewelry and stained glass, quilts, fall plants and other craft items. Special guests this year will be members of the Standing Bear Council of Native Americans.
There will be lots of fun activities for kids during the afternoon. Young guests are always excited to see the live snake and lizard demonstrations, check out the bounce house, play old fashioned games on the lawn, have their face painted and check out the equipment from the Quincy Fire Department. The Quincy Police Department will also be on hand with their RC Car and their DARE car.
Bring your appetite! Booths and tents on the grounds offer plenty of good things to eat. New this year is Sugar Bug Cotton Candy. You may also try old-fashioned bottled soda, caramel apples and old-fashioned hard candy, baked goods, bratwurst, hot dogs and, of course, the always popular buffalo barbeque sandwiches. Muegge Kettle Corn will be there with fresh home-made kettle corn. Visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase everything from pumpkins, mums and other harvest produce to old-fashioned wooden toys and games and other fun items with an old-fashioned flair.
