 Lexi Brumbaugh has been shaping young artists in the classroom for over 16 years, and this summer, she’s bringing her creativity and contagious enthusiasm back to the Quincy Art Center to lead several exciting summer camps for children in kindergarten through third grade. Brumbaugh began her teaching career at Unity High School in Mendon where she taught for 13 years before joining the faculty at Quincy Senior High School. She was previously awarded Arts Quincy’s distinguished George M. Irwin Award as Teacher of the Year during her time at Unity. Now in her third year at QHS, she continues to inspire students with her hands-on approach and deep love for artistic exploration.
A versatile artist herself, Brumbaugh gravitates toward clay and graphite but admits, “I pretty much like all mediums!” Her personal artwork often takes the form of functional pieces or projects with deeper meaning, fueled by a curiosity for new techniques and the excitement of learning through experimentation. For Brumbaugh, teaching art is about more than just materials and techniques—it’s about connection and expression. “Art can be an outlet for many students. A time they can let their brain take a break and just express themselves without saying a word,” she explains. “I strive to be that teacher a child looks forward to coming to school for. I want to make it a fun, exciting and inspirational atmosphere for everyone who walks into my classroom.” That same spirit of joy and discovery carries into her role at the Quincy Art Center, where she looks forward to teaching younger students during the summer. “I absolutely love teaching K-3rd grade in the summers at The Art Center. I teach high school all school year, and I’m certified K-12, so it’s exciting to be with the littles and watch them create such amazing art pieces!” This summer, Brumbaugh will lead camps in pottery, sculpture, fibers and painting. “It’s going to be such a fun summer creating ART!” she adds. The Quincy Art Center’s summer camps run throughout June and July and include creative opportunities for young artists ages Pre-K through 8th grade.
