Located in the heart of downtown and in Quincy’s Historic German District, the Dick Brothers Brewery District is a complex that is alive with magnificent architecture and mysterious tunnels below the street. The buildings house a museum, gallery, studio spaces for artists, places for events big and small, and much more!

Dick Brothers Brewery was founded by three brothers. In 1857, the brewery started producing and shipping beer, reaching 70,000 barrels at its peak, making Dick Brothers Brewery the largest in the Midwest at the time.

The business closed in 1951 and has since been owned by different families. In 2011, the brew house was purchased by Liz and Chris Solaro breathing new life into the district. In 2012, the couple opened Gallery Solaro. In 2015, business partners Bret Austin and Mark Krogman formed Dick Brothers Inc. and purchased the Stock House and Power House buildings. Eventually the pair purchased the Bottle House buildings, selling one to Jon Hanchett of the Cheese People. Since then, Mark and Bret have been working to restore the buildings and offer them for use by the community to enjoy.

In the coming years, the Cheese People production will be housed in the Bottle House.
Most recently, Mark and Bret opened the Dick Brothers Brewery Museum in the Stock House building. The newly renovated space houses collections and rare memorabilia, telling the history of Dick Brothers Brewery. The Stock House also offers a 5,000 square foot space for special events and gatherings. The group has revealed the expansive underground tunnel system which is available for private and group tours.

In addition to Gallery Solaro and the Cheese People, the complex houses The Redeemed Life Furnishings and Quincy Brewery & Arts, a nonprofit whose mission is to cultivate a sustainable arts district that provides a cultural hub for arts education and outreach to the community through a variety of partnerships and programs.

Learn more about the complex and Quincy Brewery & Arts during a virtual tour at 10 am on Tuesday, May 12 on Arts Quincy’s Facebook page. Make reservations or rent studio space by calling 217-224-9892. Learn more at dickbrothersbrewery.com.
