Quincy Woodworkers Guild

By Terry Hollenberg
Meet Jeff Hibbs, is a relatively new member of the Quincy Woodworkers Guild. Jeff was invited to a meeting in 2023 and joined right away. His day job is running a CNC lathe at Watlow Industries, but in his free time Jeff applies himself to a wide range of projects including woodworking, building a retention wall, home remodeling, 3d printing, some metal work and expanding his workshop’s capabilities.
Jeff’s interest in woodworking began at an early age, with his greatest influence and teaching coming from his father and grandfather. It would be hard to say what his first project was, but he recalls making some shelves while in high school as a 4-H project.
Most of his woodworking projects today are furnishings for the Hibbs’ home such as storage units under the stairs, a coffee table, a live edge bathroom sink, floating shelves and a bee house made from cedar. Jeff also made a lighted display cabinet for a church and turned some pens from various materials including a deer antler, as well as wood and acrylic.
As a member, Jeff enjoys visiting with other woodworkers and especially seeing other people’s workshops where they host of the Woodworkers Guild in the summer months.
The Guild welcomes people of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced artisans. The fellowship and knowledge shared makes the activity especially rewarding. The Woodworkers Guild is currently interested in finding teens and young adults with an interest in woodworking to mentor so that they can continue the member’s tradition of passing skills to the next generation of crafters.
The Quincy Woodworkers Guild meets on the first Monday evening of the month, unless it conflicts with a holiday. During warmer months meetings are hosted at a member’s shop. In the winter the group meets at the Quincy Senior and Family
Resource Center.
