In a powerful testament to the transformative impact of the arts, Unique Harmony, a dynamic traveling bell choir, is taking center stage as a beacon of self-expression and community engagement for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Comprising 30 talented individuals who attend Transitions’ Community Day Services, this ensemble has become a symbol of resilience and creativity.

Since its inception in March 2018, Unique Harmony has proven to be more than just a musical group; it’s a platform through which participants can articulate their emotions and perspectives that might otherwise go unheard. Through the universal language of music, these individuals are breaking down barriers and finding their voices.
The echoes of Unique Harmony’s performances have reached various corners of the Quincy area, enchanting audiences in nursing homes, captivating crowds at local fairs and fostering a sense of unity in community events. Yet, the rhythm of this artistic journey faced a hiatus due to the disruptive COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, Arts Quincy partnered with Transitions to fund the return of the choir. The dedicated members of Unique Harmony have been busy with rehearsals and fine-tuning their melodies in preparation for upcoming fall performances.
“The story of Unique Harmony underscores the pivotal role of arts programs in providing a platform for adults with disabilities to shine, proving that creativity knows no bounds and that the symphony of human expression transcends any limitations,” explains Laura Sievert, Arts Quincy Executive Director. “These performances encapsulate more than just music; they embody the essence of breaking barriers and celebrating the profound impact of the arts in enriching lives and fostering connections through the arts.”
Contact Kelly Moore at Transitions of Western Illinois at 217-224-2194 to learn more about booking a performance of the group.
