The Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association is excited to invite area musicians to participate in its 77th Concert Season this fall! Auditions are scheduled for this summer with the Symphony's four performance groups. This is the perfect opportunity to share your passion for music while making new friends! The QSOA includes...

QUINCY SYMPHONY CHORUS: The Symphony Chorus is a fun and talented group of musicians under the direction of Dr. Phyllis Robertson. The Chorus is a true community ensemble with participants from various backgrounds and skill levels. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 4-5:30 pm or by appointment. Interested singers should prepare an audition song of their choice, such as a hymn or patriotic song with music or from memory. The Chorus rehearses on Monday evenings beginning in late August and will present concerts on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, March 15, 2025. They will join the Symphony Orchestra and Youth Chorus on Friday, Dec. 6 for a holiday concert.

QUINCY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA The Symphony Orchestra invites exceptional instrumentalists from the region to audition on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Under the direction of Dr. Bruce Briney, the Orchestra will perform on Sunday, Sept. 29; Friday, Dec. 6; Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, April 12. In addition, the QSO will perform children’s educational concerts on Friday, March 21. They rehearse on Tuesday evenings.
The orchestra has openings for Principal Bass and Principal Cello. Applicants will perform a solo of their choice and orchestral excerpts. For details, email [email protected]. Players are needed for all string sections and additional brass, woodwind and percussion players are needed for works with larger instrumentation and the substitute list. Musicians should prepare a short solo that displays their musical strengths.

QUINCY AREA YOUTH ORCHESTRA The Quincy Area Youth Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Richard Cangro, is accepting virtual auditions through Oct. 1. All new and returning members must audition. Candidates must be in grades 7-12 and have at least three years of playing experience. Students should prepare material found on the youth orchestra page of qsoa.org, along with a solo of their choice. The QAYO will join the adult orchestra for a side-by-side performance on Friday, Feb. 8 and present a concert in March. They rehearse weekly through March.

QUINCY AREA YOUTH CHORUS Auditions for the Youth Chorus were held Saturday, Aug. 3*. QAYC includes boys with unchanged voices, and girls in two performing groups: The Kinderchor for the younger singers, directed by Amy Fairchild; and the Concert Choir for older members, directed by Paul Shelor. Rehearsals are held either on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons. *Contact the Symphony office to learn about the next round of auditions.

To sign up for an audition time with any of these groups, call 217-222-2856 or email [email protected]. Visit qsoa.org for more information.
